Professor Dr. Jan Stallkamp, head of the Fraunhofer Project group for Automation in Medicine and Biotechnology (PAMB) in Mannheim, was inaugurated as a professor for automation in medicine and biotechnology in November 2014. He was appointed by the Medical Faculty Mannheim, Heidelberg University. This university professorship pursues the objective to develop innovative technologies for diagnostic as well as therapeutic interventions. The professorship in this field of research is unique in Germany.
Professor Stallkamp was born in Leverkusen in 1967 and studied mechanical engineering at RWTH Aachen. In 1998, he became head of the competence center “Medical Technology” at Fraunofer IPA in Stuttgart. His doctoral research was on the topic of “Optical 3-dimensional measurement processes for the navigation in robot-assisted minimally-invasive surgery”. Since 2012, Professor Stallkamp has been responsible for PAMB in Mannheim.
